Digital Designer / Creative All-Rounder

London

We're seeking a brilliant All-rounder Designer with strong digital capabilities to enhance our visual identity across multiple platforms. This pivotal role will be responsible for the design and delivery of all our creative content across desktop and mobile products, events, marketing emails, social channels, and beyond. You'll be at the forefront of our mission to improve audience engagement through an enhanced and consistent design language that spans our news publication, tech products, and unique offerings such as our Members Club, restaurant, podcasts, and YouTube channel. Your creativity, confidence, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be crucial as we grow and evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

Digital Design Excellence: Create and refine UX/UI for our website and app, ensuring an intuitive and engaging user journey that boosts reader engagement and retention.
Visual Storytelling: Produce high-impact graphics, charts, data visualisations, and collaborate on short-form films to complement and enhance our editorial content across all platforms.
Brand Consistency: Develop and maintain a cohesive visual identity across our various products and initiatives, with a deep understanding of our brand values.
Asset Creation: Design versatile assets for different parts of the business, adapting to the unique needs of our publication, tech products, Members Club, restaurant, podcasts, and YouTube channel.
Rapid Prototyping: Quickly conceptualise and produce design mockups and prototypes to support fast-paced editorial needs and product development cycles.
Email Marketing Design: Work with the team to set and design new email templates, overhauling our approach to design across triggered and continuity campaigns.
A/B Testing: Design relevant tests across website, newsletter, and social channels to increase conversion and improve customer experience.
Collaboration: Work closely with editorial, product, and tech teams to ensure design solutions meet both user needs and business objectives.
Independent Project Management: Manage multiple briefs independently, communicating progress accurately to the wider team.

Requirements
5+ years of proven experience in a fast-paced, multi-project design environment, ideally within a newsroom or digital media setting
Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects), and HTML/CSS
Demonstrable experience designing for news or similar multi-project, fast-paced industry
Strong portfolio showcasing innovative design concepts and highly considered visual executions
Excellent visual design skills with a strong understanding of typography, colour theory, layout principles, and platform-specific behaviour across digital devices
Ability to translate complex data and information into clear, engaging visual formats
Experience in creating responsive designs for web and mobile platforms, with a focus on mobile users
Strong photography skills (both lifestyle and product) and ability to edit video and photography
Interest and experience in simple animation for social media
Keen interest in digital, e-commerce, branding & UI design
Strong communication skills and ability to articulate design decisions to stakeholders
Adaptability to work on diverse projects, from editorial graphics to product interfaces
Proactive problem-solving approach and ability to manage multiple deadlines
