Lead VFX Artist

Woking hybrid / Remote REMOTE

The Lead VFX artist at Ballistic Moon reports directly to the Art team lead. This role is a key hire for the art team and requires a creative effects artist with a grounded technical skillset, excellent problem-solving capabilities, and good memory management skills. You will be responsible for communicating and delivering and the benchmark level for all VFX.

We are an established game studio based in the South East of England.

With a growing team of highly experienced developers, we focus on creating the exceptional and innovative games of the future. We're currently working with a AAA publisher in the early stages of a major new project as well as our own IP.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver high-quality VFX
Be the studio point of contact for all VFX knowledge
Be an advocate for VFX and keep abreast of practices and peer products
Create or oversee all VFX work, both in studio and outsourced
Create well written VFX documentation with process examples where required
Work with Producers and the art lead to ensure a realistic project scope
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
Hold a high personal work standard and be the standard bearer for VFX benchmarks and targets for the studio
Have working experience in games industry pipelines and VFX software, runtime optimisation and associated VFX animation workflows.
A thorough knowledge of VFX and VFX animation be it cinematic, traditional or games
Can work effectively with outsource teams and provide clear and easy to follow guidance
Own the design and implementation of VFX suite from start to finish
A positive, grounded attitude
Able to communicate key ideas and simple wins both creatively and technically
Be able to work remotely
Friendly and collaborative nature
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a senior VFX artist or the acquired experience to elevate to this role
An interesting portfolio showcasing a solid knowledge of VFX, which ancillary knowledge of lighting and animation
Experience with game engine pipelines and post Alpha optimisation
Experience with pre pro methodology and transferring methodology to game pipelines
In depth animation VFX, with key experience using Maya, VFX software and game engines,
5+ years games industry experience required
Shipped at least one project throughout development cycle on console or PC-preferably in a senior or lead role
Comfortable presenting VFX work, updates and pre-production work to the development team and senior management
A passion for games with a good understanding of the games industry, development cycles and professional workflows
BONUS SKILLS
Working experience in UE4, Unity and in-house game engines
Knowledge and experience with both gameplay driven and cinematic VFX and a keen interest in cinematography
Able to analyse and recreate vfx techniques using pre viz and compositing
Has worked within an agile development methodology
