Production assistant / Resource organiser

Glasgow

Step into the fast-paced world of live TV production and play a crucial role in ensuring seamless communication between the production gallery and the rest of the team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Production Assistant to join the STV News team based in Glasgow. This role will be responsible for assisting with the production of live gallery programmes, including programme timings, managing running orders, scripts and programme administration. This role will also provide support to the STV News Resource Organiser two days per week.

This role will require the successful candidate to work a combination of late shifts and weekends.


Responsibilities

Timings and counting from our live gallery for all STV News programmes and Scotland Tonight.
Completion of all paperwork and record-keeping associated with the programmes.
Effective liaison with Broadcast Services in connection with transmission slots and running times.
Act as the key link within the production gallery between the Producer and Director.
Deal with requests for information efficiently and effectively.
Develop thorough knowledge and understanding of the technicalities of TV production and the editorial responsibilities of the team.
Book satellite space segment for SNG feeds, arranging required frequency clearances via OFCOM and JFMG.
Co-ordinate line feeds to and from other broadcasters and agencies in the UK and abroad.
On the day coordination of crews and resources working closely with newsgathering to ensure efficient management of priorities.
Maintain good working relationships with the news production team, other STV programme departments, freelance staff, and external suppliers.
Arrange travel and accommodation for crews.
Assist in any other aspects of the work of the Company as reasonably required.


Knowledge, skills, and experience

Related experience in a live gallery environment is desirable.
Excellent IT skills and the ability to learn new software packages.
Determination and drive to succeed, work to tight deadlines and overcome obstacles.
Confident presence in the news production gallery.
Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of live TV production processes.
Ability to thrive in a fast paced newsroom environment, including strong organisational and
problem solving skills is essential.
Ability to work independently using own initiative.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
