Production Journalist

Belfast

UTV is the market leader for people looking for stories about Northern Ireland and our content is recognised for its high quality across the UK. We have been nominated for Royal Television Society awards in London and have taken home the local RTS for best news coverage three years in a row.

The role

We are looking for a talented production journalist to join our team in Belfast working across a range of platforms.

The successful candidate will have a track record in finding their own stories and will demonstrate their ability to bring in ideas for news lines and treatments.

They will need to take the lead on bulletin production and work towards our flagship news programme. Being adept at using a variety of technology including for picture editing and the formation of graphics is also crucial.

Reacting to breaking news and researching more complex issues thoroughly and accurately for both 'on the day' stories and future planning are key parts of the role. Having contacts who can help inform and verify our work is important too.

This is a position for a team player committed to the vision for UTV and ITV, who can show great initiative to enhance coverage at every turn whether in scriptwriting, sourcing and selecting content, or raising production values for filmed and live output.

We now have a number of platforms and our journalists should be just as passionate about seeing their work reach audiences wherever, whenever and however they access our content with the skills to match.

If you're interested you will need first class editorial judgement, a full knowledge of media law, regulatory codes and health and safety requirements in our diverse workplace.

In addition, you will need to be able to show how you cope in a demanding and changing environment to meet frequent, tight deadlines, working calmly and inclusively under pressure.

So, if you would thrive in a fast-paced newsroom where no two days are the same and you have the journalistic skills that will help us achieve our goals, we'd love to hear from you.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

A sound knowledge of media law, regulatory compliance as well as health and safety legislation.
Understanding of editorial priorities and their application.
Experience of delivering news stories and treatments.
Ability to use contacts to generate original ideas for news output.
Strong writing and technical production skills.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

Innovative thinking to source and produce news stories in the most engaging way across a variety of platforms.
High level of competence in recognising and resolving editorial, regulatory, legal and health and safety challenges.
Commitment to a team and a company with the ability to work positively to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment.
Evidence of promoting diversity and inclusion internally and externally.
Diligent, organised and professional approach.
