Technical Operator

Nottingham

The Operations Team in Nottingham provides technical services to our daily regional News Magazine Programme, East Midlands Today, as well as the local Politics East Midlands programme.

We are looking for a Technical Operator to join our multi-skilled team.

Main Responsibilities

Multi-skilling is critical to the smooth running of the Operations department in Nottingham. Technical Operators in Nottingham are responsible for a range of duties from Operating Studio Cameras to operating the Media Hub. You may be required to fulfil a number of roles including bulletin directing, Editing and Gallery work. Appropriate training will be given to the successful candidate.

Additional technical skills, such as editing, would be an advantage, please include any in your application. Experience of Quantel or FinalCutPro would also be of use.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have experience of working in a fast turnaround daily news environment, working to tight deadlines.

We react to news events, so you should have a flexible approach to working. We operate 7 days a week and duties will include some late nights, weekends and Bank Holidays. You will be expected to work on location and in the building. You must be willing to travel around the region as required.

You should have an aptitude and willingness to develop your own skills and learn new ones as the needs of the department changes over time and new equipment becomes available. We are in the process of transitioning to the Integrated Gallery System (IGS) This is a major change to our way of working and the successful candidate will be part of our multi-skilled technical team working with this new technology.

We're looking for candidates to demonstrate experience in Media hub, Quantel editing, Gallery experience including communications, lighting, cameras and sound. Directing skills or Studio Camera experience.

You should have a flexible approach, be self-motivated, be a good communicator and have the ability to work alone or as part of a larger team.
